Hello, just a quick blog today!
Been spending this week on holiday from work relaxing and to concentrate on some illustration work to get inspired again. So here are some images of what I have been up to! Still have more ideas I want to try out, will see what I can get done over the weekend.
Also, forgot to mention, I had illustrated and painted on some wedding shoes for a client a wee while back, her wedding is this Saturday, can’t wait to see photographs of her wearing them!
Thanks for reading!
All the best,
Finally have some time off to catch up with creative work, so trying to make the most of this week by writing TWO blog posts (the other I shall publish on Thursday or Friday), doll making, and getting back into illustrating. It can be really easy to fall out of doing anything creative when you have a full time job, so I am so grateful for any opportunity for time off!
Last week I had a lovely surprise in the post….
A finished copy of the book I had illustrated for the talented author, Fiona C Ross, The Perfect Pudding: A Space Adventure! It looks so COOL, I am so pleased with the final product, especially the cover, and the colours are so vibrant!
Here is the blurb for you to get more info on the book:
“Nine-year-old Flo is a talented cook, and as the Food and Fun looms on the Dog Bone Asteroid, she sets out to secure the ingredients for the perfect pudding, in exchange for some of her parent’s inventions. Helped by the creative talents of her seven-year-old brother, Hugo, Flo hopes to create a spectacular pudding that the family can trade for whatever they need to continue with their space travels. Flying in the family space pod, armed with unique inventions such as the sucking and sorting hoover and the zapa-snapa, Flo visits Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Saturn and Jupiter, in search of original and delectable delights, such as hot ice cream and volcano-smoked pancakes, for her perfect pudding. Full of colourful planetary facts, wacky inventions, near disaster and a lot of laughter, Flo and Hugo’s ingenuity is tested to the very last minute."
"It is Fiona’s experience as a primary school teacher that Space is a favourite topic for children, and with extraordinary things to learn about like pancake domes on Venus and the Dog Bone Asteroid it’s little wonder. She hopes that teachers will find the story an enjoyable and informative accompaniment to their space projects, and that it will further develop children’s curiosity about our solar system and beyond.
This is the second edition of The Perfect Pudding with exciting new illustrations by talented artist Nicola Brand and fun activities to try at home or school.”
It truly is such a bizarre feeling seeing my illustrations in a book, as so much hard work goes into making them, there must have been about 60 illustrations produced, and they look fab integrated with the text!
If you would like to purchase a copy, you can find the book through the link *here*, or by using the Amazon ISBN search "9781908128478" while the book’s website is being worked on! 10% of sales of The Perfect Pudding go to Mary's Meals Charity. This charity provides free school meals in communities where poverty and hunger prevent children from gaining an education.
Thanks for reading, and stay tuned for later this week I shall be uploading another blog post - *woah* two in one week REALLY, you guys are lucky ;)
All the best
Various ponderings by me; Nicola Brand: creator of the Nicolpops stitch-punk doll. I dabble with illustration, but my main passion is for knitting, and using mixed media to create one of a kind critters.
